"The first three months of my 2nd baby were so much easier. I had confidence and knew what was happening because of Mattea "
- Kat, Durham, NC
I received my MPH from Gillings at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) specializing in Maternal Child Health. During my MPH I focused on birth and postpartum, particularly midwifery care, infant nutrition, and the postpartum experience. I was also fortunate enough to complete the Mary Rose Tully Training Initiative (MRT-TI) at UNC --one of the few Pathway 2 Lactation programs in the United States which allowed me to gain clinical lactation experience from UNC Hospitals, Wake Healthcare, The Womens Birth and Wellness Center and Vidant to name a few.
I have a passion for health promotion by supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and new parenting. With earlier careers as a Spanish Medical Interpreter, Prenatal and Mommy and Me Yoga teacher, Birth and Postpartum Doula, Public Health Professional and Lactation Consultant I have an extensive and diverse perspective. Additionally, I hold eight years of Project Management experience from my previous career in Technology, where I implemented systems in Travel, Healthcare, and Hospitality settings.
My clinical experience began as a child growing up in hospitals as three of my siblings and father have Epilepsy. They were constantly in and out of hospitals, making them my second home and carving a path to work clinically but unsure to what capacity. While I was pre-med in undergrad at Boston University, I missed languages and cultures, so after two years I opted out to pursue International Relations moving to Quito, Ecuador and Buenos Aires, Argentina. This led me to become a Spanish Medical Interpreter and begin a global career specializing in Latin American communities at home and abroad.
I have worked with birthing families in San Francisco, New York City, Guatemala, and currently North Carolina where I live in Carrboro with my girlfriend Hilary, our 2 kids and dog and cat. I understand the intricacies of the postpartum time both personally and professionally. I work with babies of all ages in providing comprehensive and compassionate, evidence based, wholistic lactation support. Please inquire to discuss your individual goals.
